Privacy Policy
Who we are
This website is run by The Last Breath Poet, the writing project of David Starczewski, based in Liverpool, United Kingdom. In this policy, "we" and "us" refer to The Last Breath Poet. We are the data controller for the personal information described below.
If you have any question about this policy or about how your information is handled, you can contact us at starczewski@gmail.com.
What information we collect
We only collect information you choose to give us, plus a small amount of technical data that is created automatically when anyone visits a website.
- Your email address, if you subscribe to receive new poems and occasional reflections.
- Order and delivery details, if you buy a copy of the book. This includes your name, delivery address and email address.
- Payment information, which is collected and processed directly by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
- Technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, device type and the pages you visited. This is created automatically by our hosting provider.
How we use your information
- To send you new poems, reflections and occasional announcements, if you have subscribed.
- To process and deliver your book order and to answer any questions about it.
- To keep the website secure and working properly.
- To understand, in general terms, which pages people read, so the site can be improved.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it with anyone for their own marketing purposes.
Our lawful basis for using your information
- Consent — for sending you the newsletter. You gave this when you subscribed and you can withdraw it at any time.
- Performance of a contract — for processing and delivering a book you have ordered.
- Legitimate interests — for keeping the website secure and understanding in broad terms how it is used.
- Legal obligation — for keeping records we are required by law to keep, such as records relating to sales.
Who we share information with
We use a small number of trusted service providers who process information on our behalf:
- Webflow — website hosting and form submissions.
- Stripe — payment processing for book orders.
- Our email service provider — sending the newsletter to subscribers.
Each of these providers is bound by its own data protection obligations. Some of them may process data outside the United Kingdom; where that happens, appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses are relied on.
Cookies
This website uses only the cookies that are necessary for it to function correctly, together with any that our hosting provider sets to keep the site secure. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the site may then not work as intended.
How long we keep your information
- Newsletter subscribers — until you unsubscribe, after which your address is removed.
- Order records — for as long as required by UK tax and accounting law, which is currently six years.
- Technical logs — for a short period only, as set by our hosting provider.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information;
- ask us to restrict or object to how we use it;
- ask us to transfer your information to another provider;
- withdraw your consent to marketing at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email starczewski@gmail.com. Every newsletter also includes an unsubscribe link.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 13.
